About The ARA

The Mission of the American Restroom Association

Our mission encompasses:
 

  • Promoting innovative restroom design and technology.

  • Advocating for increased restroom availability and accessibility.

  • Monitoring and influencing pertinent legislation and regulations.

  • Documenting the challenges faced by individuals who limit travel or avoid activities due to concerns about access to appropriate restroom facilities.

 

The ARA works to advance our mission by:

  • Developing and executing public awareness campaigns to generate positive media coverage.

  • Addressing weaknesses in existing regulations and legislation.

  • Serving as a central resource for information regarding the health impacts of inadequate public restroom access.

  • Conducting surveys to develop “Municipal Friendliness Ratings” to assess and recognize communities prioritizing public restroom access.

  • Establishing and maintaining communication with similar organizations worldwide.

  • Creating and disseminating best practice guidelines, brochures, and suggested restroom designs.

  • Serving as a clearinghouse for companies and individuals offering relevant products and designs.

  • Building and maintaining communication channels with building managers, architects, builders, the American public, and other relevant stakeholders.
